Who we are... The Friends of Webster is a group of people who work together to support and enhance the programs and facilities at June Norcross Webster Scout Reservation. Many of its members attended JNW as a youth or adult, some have and continue to serve on the camp staff. What we do... Members of the FOW carried out several major projects each year to enhance and improve the programs and facilities of JNW. They raise funds to provide additional services and enhancements to the camp. The new Handicraft lodge (2008) was built with funds raised by FOW. The ‘old’ Handicraft lodge was split into two part and we now have pavilions in Site 6 and at the 1st Class Path area. The Friends recently further insulated the inside of the Ranhoff Nature/Ecology Center to make it a year round cabin with indoor facilities. Cabinets, stoves and refrigerators were added to the Cornell and Santor lodges. Other projects include the new council ring (2007), BBQ shelter (2006), Health Lodge pavilion (2006) to name a few. Each year in June, the Friends sponsor a “Beaver Day” work day where scouts, scouters and members help to get the camp ready for summer camp. The past two years the Friends have run the Haunted Woods Halloween event. Each summer, the Friends throw a “hump-day” party for the staff in the middle of the summer. The Friends recently purchase two Slushee machines for camp along with a reloading machine for the Shooting Sport area. The Friends helped this fall to complete the insides of the new Brand Ranger Station, building the rooms and two large separation partitions between the 3 major sections. They also built the wood shed over the wood furnace that is used to heat the maintenance center. A current fund-raiser and camp improvement project is funding new tables for the dining hall, replacing the 1964 wood tables. Each table will be personalized with a small brass plaque with the name of the ‘sponsor’. Tables can be ‘purchased’ for $300 each. Forms are available at the camp or from FOW members. The Friends are building 40 new four foot benches to go with the new tables. The on-going staff photo display in` the camp office and the Price Milam camp patches in the dining hall are made available through FOW funds. We fund these projects with dues from our members, from fund-raisers and donations. Dues are $40 per Scouting Family, $20 per Scouter, and $10 for a Scout membership (under 21). Please consider joining and helping to support the many ongoing projects and events at camp. If you have some time, a few hours, a day or part of a weekend consider contacting Jesse Burnham, the ranger, and volunteering some time to help out.
